Prepping for the shoot, part 3 – What to Wear
Prepping for the shoot, part 3 – What to Wear
You want to get as much mileage out of business headshot as possible, so staying away from trends is a good idea. Simple, classic and professional is always recommended. You want to look professional in your photo. Clothes should be clean and well pressed. I always recommend my clients bring their clothes and change in the studio to prevent wrinkling on the drive.
Not Recommended - Rules can always be broken, but here are some basic guideline on what NOT to wear for a business headshot.
- Busy patterns (and plaids) that could be distracting, or colors that may over-power you (very bright pinks, or candy-apple red)
- Colors that blend with your skin tone
- Deep-cut blouses that show too much cleavage. Scoop neck, Boat neck, and Crew neck photograph well.
- Tank Tops or shoulder-less shirts, unless worn under a tailored jacket
- Clothes that have no form, like square-cut shirts, unless worn under a tailored jacket. This often results in an unflattering frumpy-looking portrait
